A Rake's Progress

IT’S BEDLAM….! An extraordinary evening of rousing songs, eccentric masks and rumbustious puppets. Inspired by William Hogarth’s satirical etchings, A Rake’s Progress is the wild and astonishing tale of Tom Rakewell. Possessed of his dead father’s fortune Tom forsakes the country life and embarks on a riotous journey deep into the heart and seething underbelly of eighteenth century London. Urged on by a Mephistophelian manservant and pursued by his spurned lover, Sarah Young, he seems set on a road to ruin.

A Rakes ProgressAfter their sell out tour of A Christmas Carol, Strangeface present a very theatrical tale of youthful abandon and strange redemption. Both comic and moving, this highly original production also includes Strangeface’s ever popular back stage tour where the audience get a chance to try on a mask, play with a puppet or take a closer look at the company’s renowned ‘trailing edge’ technology.

Strangeface have been touring nationally since 2001 and are equally at home in grand old theatres as rural halls. The Guardian described Artistic Director Russell Dean’s masks as "shooting straight for the heart" and their distinctive style blends quick changes, mask and puppet play with original live music and soundscapes. Although traditionally masks and puppets might be seen as used in children’s theatre the company have made work for all ages and this piece is suitable for those 11 plus.

When Strangeface performed at the college last year audience members said:

“I enjoyed it's uniqueness….. the energy….brilliant”

“West end quality performance!

“Professional, open, engaging with audience”
