Assessment

GUIDANCE TO ASSESSMENT DURING KEY STAGE 3

  • All work that students are required to carry out might be used to inform staff when making decisions relating to teaching groups and levels of entry for external and internal examinations.

  • At the end of KS2 the national average is Level 4

  • At the end of KS3 the national average is Level 5

Process

  • Students work will be marked and a green stamp will be used to indicate what was good as well as what needs to be worked on.

  • Work will be marked in the following way:

Core - Math’s, English and Science, every two weeks.

Foundation - once every six lessons.

Parents are asked to focus on ‘what was good’ and ‘better if’, when discussing achievement with their son/daughter.

Three times a year during October, February and June a common piece of work will be set across the Year Group.  Your child’s work will be moderated within subject areas before a level/grade is given into a central data system.  This level/grade will be reported to parents once a term.

From the central database Senior and Middle Managers will review performance against progress to targets.  Should underperformance be identified the students’ Head of Year and Head of Faculty will make a decision regarding the correct approach to support your child.
