Head of College’s Introduction

As the Head of College of Arthur Mellows Village College it is my privilege both to welcome you and briefly introduce the College.

Our last Ofsted inspection recognised the College as ‘Outstanding’ for the second time; the highest accolade that can be achieved. Key points from this inspection are as follows:

“Students’ behaviour is excellent”

“Excellent relationships with their teachers mean the atmosphere within lessons is purposeful and positive”

“The school’s work to keep students safe and secure is outstanding”

“Constant improvement provides students with outstanding opportunities to learn”

“Students are unreservedly proud of their school”

“One student explained – Aiming high and trying your best is what this school is about”

“Determination to succeed is widespread”

(Ofsted December 2014)

At Arthur Mellows Village College we enjoy a breadth and depth of talent, goodwill and commitment amongst all staff and students which is a constant factor in our success.

We pride ourselves in having a caring, secure but stimulating Community College.  We offer excellent educational opportunities to all students and the wider community, through the high quality of our teachers, curriculum, accommodation and materials.

In the 2017/18 examination round, students achieved outstanding success at both A Level, AS Level and GCSE examinations.  The majority of our A Level students were successful in securing their university places and excellent results were reported with 22.5% of examinations taken being A* to A grades and 61% of students achieving A* to B grades in A Levels.

Year 11 students at Arthur Mellows Village College also excelled themselves. The results outperformed the successes of last year with 52% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in both English and Maths and 78% achieving a grade 4 or above in both English and Maths. In addition, 23% of grades across all subjects were the very best grades of 9-7 or equivalent.  This is great testament to the hard work of everyone concerned. Amalie Yates was the top performer, gaining an outstanding 7 grade 9s, 2 grade 8’s and 1 grade 7 and an A^ in Further Maths which is above an A*.

I realise that the quality, ethos and approach we offer has not been built over night, but is a result of a commitment to generations of students who, with parents and Governors, have supported our work.  This has produced a College where complacency is not acceptable.  We will always strive to improve opportunities and outcomes for all our learners. Out stated goal will continue to be:

“Delivering learning for life within an aspirational culture”

I hope this site will give you a flavour of the College but if you have any questions please feel free to contact us so we can help you further.
